lose fat mass

How do you gain weight in fat? Fat mass storage in the body occurs, when the amount of energy (in calories) a person ingests through food and drink is higher than the body burns energy (calories) for an extended period of time.

The body needs energy (calories) for everything it does. This includes basic things we don’t usually do “actively,” such as breathing, maintaining body temperature, the beating of our heart, and other biological processes to keep us alive at rest. This is called basal metabolic rate (BMR). Muscle mass is the most important factor in basal metabolism. The more muscle you have, the higher the calorie output during the day without having to “think about it.” After all, muscles need a lot of energy to maintain. Anything that reduces muscle mass lowers your BMR and, therefore, how many (calories) you burn in a day. This is why we strongly support the shift from “weight loss” to “fat mass loss.” This means focusing on losing weight by losing as much fat mass as possible, while maintaining or even building as much muscle mass as possible. This is how you keep your body’s “combustion machine” intact.

In addition to our BMR, we can also influence energy (calorie) output through exercise and the type of food we choose to eat. By moving more functionally during the day, such as getting up, brushing our teeth, or taking more steps, we can burn more energy (calories). In addition, exercising allows you to burn more calories.

Our bodies also use energy to digest our food. High-protein and high-fiber foods consume the most energy (calories).

Where do you lose weight first? Where fat ends up in the body is influenced by several factors, including heredity and hormones. So your body decides where to store body fat and lose weight. This is beyond our control.

Where does the fat go when you lose weight? Your body must get rid of fat deposits through a series of complicated metabolic pathways. The byproducts of fat metabolism leave your body: as water, through your skin (when you sweat) and your kidneys (when you urinate). As carbon dioxide, through your lungs (when you exhale).

Why reduce/lose fat mass? The advice to lose weight generally applies if you have stored too much fat mass, meaning you are overweight or obese and/or have too much visceral fat, which is the fat stored in and around the abdomen. Overweight, obesity and fat in and around the abdomen significantly increases many health risks, including high blood pressure, cancer, menstrual disorders, fertility problems, joint inflammation and wear and tear, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

How can you lose weight and burn fat? The best way to lose fat mass is to reduce your calories (calorie deficit) while keeping your protein and fiber intake high. In addition, you want to add low-moderate activity, such as resistance training (strength training) and walking. So strength training puts you right in losing weight! In this way, you trigger the muscle to remain intact as much as possible, and allow the body to concentrate on using body fat as fuel.
